Short history of Arnold Schoenberg!

Arnold Schoenberg was born Sept. 13, 1874 to a lower middle-class family to Pauline Nachod and Samuel Schoenberg in Vienna and died on July 13 1951. His development of the twelve-tone series in the field of music and atonal music are the two greatest developments that the twentieth century had seen. Schoenberg’s works added vigor to the maturing romantic period. Arnold Schoenberg’s life helped to inspire one of the great novels of the twentieth century, Thomas Mann’s ‘Doctor Faustus’.

He will share with you

How being self-taught ended up in crazy music
Thoughts on the Sex-tet poem Transfigured Night
Handling the riotous, conservative Viennese audiences
How bankers are girly men
How teaching and eating go together
How he was always the first in the family to try…
His strange remembrance of the words of Pierrot Lunaire
The meaning of 12 tone music – 6 pack vs. 12 pack
What it means to be an undecipherable genius
and much more.

And we will hear excerpts of his music:
